How is fixed-deposit interest calculated?

How is fixed-deposit interest calculated?

Assume 100,000 currency units at 4% for 6 months: simple interest is 100,000 × 4% × 6/12 = 2,000, with about 102,000 units at maturity. Use one currency for all amounts; the values are examples only.

Simple, compound and monthly payout

  • Simple: interest on the original principal only. Check whether your product actually uses simple interest, compounding or payouts; no method is assumed to apply to every bank or jurisdiction.
  • Compound: interest is added to principal and earns interest itself; only applies if the product truly rolls over.
  • Monthly payout: annual interest estimated and paid monthly; the principal does not grow.

Method

Simple interest, annual compounding and monthly-payout scenarios; no live bank rates are loaded or compared.
